Being Heard

The Tuesday Group’s theme was being heard. Group members shared some powerful feelings and experiences, which grew into four short films. Each film shares what we think is important for people to hear, for us all to feel seen, valued and heard.

  • a better environment - making a place or space nicer to be in

The films have been made possible by the amount of trust built within the team. They tell important stories about what it’s really like to work in and access health services. These messages and voices are rarely heard - but they contain important ideas about what needs to change to create a better environment for both those giving and receiving care. The group worked with artist Ben Connors to create visual images of themselves. Filmmaker Felipe Pagani and composer Charles Stuart made the films and music.

Riverwood is a residential home based in Greenwich. After hearing some of the audio recorded during Tuesday Group sessions, one resident, PJ, was inspired to create a series of puppet shows responding to the themes.

In my role I expect myself to be in control of most things and find it hard to let go. When preparing for the puppet show I met with PJ and Tilley, and I had my plan all set.

When we met and started talking, in the usual Believe in Us relaxed way, I realised that I didn’t need a plan. The ideas just happened, everyone got involved and we made some amazing, fun films that deliver so much.
